Middle Eastern Living Room

When one thinks of Middle Eastern décor as we know it, images of 101 Arabian Nights, rich purples and golds, thick Persian carpets, belly dancers and multicoloured hookahs often come to mind. These clichéd, overdone interpretations of Middle Eastern décor are best reserved for kitschy restaurants and Arabian palaces. When it comes time to decorate your home, it is possible to imbue your space with the softer, more elegant elements of Middle Eastern décor without looking like you stepped into Aladdin's tent. We've taken inspiration from ancient Persian cities like Yazd and Kashan, where the ethnic architectural landscape was very progressive for that time period, and added a modern feel to the space. That ethnic architectural landscape was dominated by identical houses in the colour of sand, subtle domes, little ornamentation, and elegant minarets. The idea, in bringing modern touches to a traditional style, is to avoid the obvious while using key components of the culture to guide your decorating. In modernising a Middle Eastern look, we suggest quiet infusions of the essence of Middle Eastern décor such as geometric art, warm tones, Berber rugs, Moroccan poufs, multiple cushions and lots of texture.

This is a great décor style for someone who appreciates the stylistic elements of Middle Eastern décor without being overly literal or excessive. This Modern Middle Eastern Living Room seamlessly blends with ethnic elements on a modern canvas, which leaves the guest feeling at ease and inspired. Notice the Pantone shades of Rust, Licorice Black, Beige, Pigeon Grey and Mushroom Gray providing the perfect backdrop for this sophisticated mix of earthy, minimal furniture. The rust wall serves as the focal point and frames the geometric prints from Gulmohar Lane. This also gives one a sense of definition and demarcation. The handmade geometric carpet from Jaipur Rugs may not traditionally be considered for an ethnic space however, once you add the leather In Living Yuba Poufs and Freedom Tree cushions, the room really comes together.

The look of this room is rooted in traditional Arabian décor which has evolved over centuries to include influences from the Mediterranean. Modern Arabian décor is minimalist and contemporary as it uses things of the past like earth tones, wooden furniture and religiously inspired motifs combine with minimal silhouettes and modern designs borrowed from the West. The décor transforms this living room into a mature and serene environment where you may feel as comfortable entertaining guests as you would catching up on your daily reading. The mix of textures from the distressed leather poufs to the woven wicker of the Freedom Tree's Sinni chair provides a sense of depth and personality while the natural symmetry of the room is extremely calming. When dealing with pillars and columns, it is always helpful to embrace the natural shape of the room rather than trying to hide and distract from these design elements.

The simplicity and appeal of this room is enhanced by subtle geometry, warm earth tones and the juxtaposition of textures that completely animate this room. A living room should be a place you feel at home and one that reflects your personality as an individual, couple or family. This room is easy-going yet modern and stylish thereby providing you with the ideal space to introduce guests to your home and lifestyle.
